Michigan Incorporating More Screen-And-Rolls For Trey Burke

Jan 5, 2012 3:25 PM

Michigan freshman point guard Trey Burke has changed coach John Beilein's offense.

"It's much different," Beilein said after Sunday's win over Minnesota. "We're running the high ball screen much more than we've ever run it, and it has a lot to do with having a primary point guard that really can handle the ball so well."

Burke scored a career-high 27 points in the victory. Many points came in the paint, off designed pick-and-rolls against a team determined to take away the Wolverines' outside shot.

"A lot of our offense is based on pick-and-roll action," Burke said. "It's not something that's every game, but just however each team is playing defense and the pick-and-roll."

Beilein Impressed By Poise Of Trey Burke

Jan 3, 2012 3:12 PM

Trey Burke is averaging 14 points per game, just behind Indiana forward Cody Zeller, who leads all Big Ten freshman with 14.2 points per game.

The young point guard is equally impressive via the confidence he exudes through his body language and interaction with teammates.

"His poise is really good," Michigan coach John Beilein said.

"There are times he gets flustered and disappointed with himself, but it's very brief and he moves on.

"He's one of the rare guys, because usually that's an acquired trait."
